A moderate walk with two main ascents. The
second, more difficult of the two, can be avoided by taking the indicated short
cut making an easy version. The walk across the ridge first offers fine views
of the cultivated Jalon area and then the beautiful secluded area of Les
Murtes. The second ascent follows the Barranc Murtes to a small delightful hidden
valley.
The ascent of Talai (optional) is a new path (2014) and
therefore rough, but worth the climb. Then on to the Coll de Rates. The descent
from Coll de Rates is via the Camiano de Xalo a Tarbena. In days gone by this
was a major route but nature has taken its course and now looks more like a path. We leave it in favour of a
very nice path below the ridge of Serra de Besa back to the start.

We have just arrived in CB and did this walk, or a variation, as a warm up and also to iron out previous difficulties we have had in the past. In 2012 we did the Ferrer North ridge following the Cicerone guide but we could not find the (easy) path up by the Barranco Negre. Again in 2013 we failed to find the start of this path and fought our way through very prickly vegetation. So this year we decided to do the Serra de Besa walk through points A,B,C and D on your excellent map then drop down to point R and up to the col de Rates followed by the ascent of Penya Talai, descending to the finca at points G and F then follow the path DOWN to point E, the beginning of the elusive path. This plan worked a treat and we were amazed to see how clear and easily accessible the path was at point E. How can we have missed it -twice? Our return was again via points D and R then back to B and A. An excellent route which sorted a problem as well. Many thanks for all your on-line info. We will be using it over the coming weeks.
